GARY BUNT PAINTS A NEW TAKE ON CREATION
In his latest exhibition, of 18 paintings and accompanying poems that tell the story of the seven days of The Creation, artist Gary Bunt reimagines the Old Testament narrative in his characteristic warm and witty way. In the story of how God created the world, Christ is once more brought alongside Bert and his faithful dog in Gary's recognisable colours and style. Whilst many of them the 'days' of creation alluded to, are instantly recognisable they also carry that wonderful and unexpected, joyful 'Gary' twist.
This painting, for example (no 11 in the collection) is entitled 'Elevenses' and the accompanying poem reads:
'There was still lots to do
But God fancied a brew
He said, "And so it shall be."
It was five to eleven
So he popped back to heaven
For angel cake and a cup of tea.'
