KING CHARLES AWARDED SPECIAL BADGE FOR ENVIRONMENTAL WORK

On Earth Day, 22nd April 2026, King Charles III was presented with a much coveted Blue Peter 'Green' badge in recognition of a lifetime spent championing the natural world and 'inspiring the next generation of students and young people' through The King's Foundation. The Foundation has spent decades teaching the world how to live in harmony with nature, championing sustainable communities, environmental education and traditional skills and as it's also their 35th anniversary, the monarch was also given another Blue Peter badge which he then buried in a time capsule at Dumfries House.

Presented by Blue Peter's Joel Mawhinney, the Green Badge is normally awarded to children and individuals who show their commitment to caring for nature and the environment. Previous recipients of the prestigious 'green' awards include Sir David Attenborough and our monarch's son, Prince William.

During the visit, Charles met other young Green Badge holders taking part in The King's Foundation's various education programmes, hearing about their innovative ideas to help reduce food waste and protect the planet, some of which will also be sealed inside the Foundation's time capsule, to be opened in 100 years' time.

Jacqueline Farrell, Executive Director for Education at The King's Foundation, said: "It has been wonderful to see our students receive their Blue Peter Green Badges today on the Dumfries House estate - and how special for them to receive them alongside The King!"

King Charles is also known for his decades of environmental campaigning, recently celebrated in the Amazon Prime Film documentary 'Finding Harmony: A King's Vision'.

The special episode of Blue Peter showing today's events, will be broadcast on CBBC on 1st May at 5pm and available on BBC iPlayer the same day.
