BAG YOURSELF A UNIQUE ECO-TREAT THIS SEASON
As this year's summer's festival season has come to an end, why not carry the vibe into Autumn by gearing up with some sustainable and circular accessories for hiking and walking made from cast-off tents and sleeping bags?
Initially set up to re-purpose the thousands of tents discarded at the end of festivals and events, Lauren Mason and friend Benjamin Harman, the duo behind ReTribe, have since transformed the materials into bags, bottle carriers, jackets, and many other functional and stylish outdoor items.
From funky upcycled lunch bags that retain both cool and heat, to chalk bags for bouldering; stylish totes made from military surplus sleeping bags (that boast of capacity for 'even a small dog if they need a ride') to water bottle carriers, beanies and bucket hats, the material (typically nylon or polyester) makes them both durable and waterproof which is great for Autumn weather and shelf-life in their new upcycle. Conversely, however, if the tents and other materials were just abandoned and then scooped up as rubbish, they would take hundreds of years to break down in landfills.
From their small factory space in Sheffield, ReTribe has upcycled over 500 tents to date as well as a variety of other surplus and salvaged material. Each piece is unique as it's handmade and utilises every inch of fabric allowing for colour variations. What's more everything is also tested for functionality, so why not be chic and stylish as you enjoy the nature's spectacles this Autumn, by becoming part of the circular economy and their pioneering new era in sustainable outdoor clothing?
